Horseback Riding Colorado

Wilderness Horse Pack Trips

Colorado horseback riding

Horseback riding Colorado with OutWest Guides is a treat. Located near Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Breckenridge, the Redstone castle, and Vail, we ride into the Maroon Bells/Snowmass Wilderness near Marble. Our motto, “The best horses, the best guides, and above all, the best scenery!” TM has been proven time and again to thousands of happy horseback riders.

Colorado day rides and hour horseback rides

We offer our Aspen, Glenwood Springs, and Vail guests one-hour horseback rides for families with small children, two-hour horseback rides, 5-hour horseback riding into our gorgeous wilderness, and multi-day Montana-style wilderness horse pack trips. Riders must be at least 7 years old. Check our RATE SHEET for more info.

Montana-style horse pack trips and wilderness adventures

Our overnight wilderness pack trips are an expedition into the past, with some of the comforts of the present day. We set up spacious, comfortable wall tents in our wilderness camp locations, then ride in to the base camp for an extended stay. You can enjoy watching the plentiful wildlife, go fishing for brook trout in the creek winding through camp, go on a lengthy trail ride, photograph the bounty of wildflowers, or simply relax on a lawn chair and read a book. We provide all meals. You need bring only your personal gear and a sleeping bag.

Quality trail horses from outstanding bloodlines

We search all over the country to find our outstanding trail horses. We feature Missouri foxtrotters, Tennessee walkers, quarter horses, paints, and Arabians from outstanding bloodlines such as Hancock, Leo San Cita, Bar Ode Time, Missouri Traveler, Bask, Pavonia, Magnum Psyche, Half Brother, and many other top bloodlines. We take excellent care of our horses, and you’ll notice the difference.
Unlike most outfitters, we’re not looking for those “bottom of the barrel,” broken-down old nags. Our horses are young, fit, strong, lively, and ready to go. Our horses are gentle enough for any beginning rider, and will patiently carry them up and down the mountain. Experienced riders, however, will delight in our horses’ responsiveness and light touch. We also have quality trail horses for sale.

Wildlife viewing

The wildlife in the Marble, Colorado area is astounding. We commonly see elk and mule deer on our Colorado horseback rides, but we see a wide array of creatures from time to time, including blue grouse, ptarmigan, all manner of flickers and woodpeckers, jays, golden eagles and bald eagles, ducks, geese, redtailed hawks, goshawks, and other raptors; chorus frogs and tiger salamanders; bighorn sheep; fox and coyotes; and even a rare lynx was recently spotted near Marble.

Privacy and quality

There’s a reason why the Aspen Highlands Ritz-Carlton Club, the St. Regis Aspen Resort, the Roaring Fork Club, and many other premiere resorts send their horseback riding guests to us at OutWest Guides. Not only do we have the best horses and the best guides, you’ll rarely see another person on our day rides! If you’ve ever been on one of those “industrial rides” in Aspen or Snowmass on a tired, skinny horse with 30 other riders as you plod along on a gravel road through the ski lifts and condos, you’ll never go back. We rarely take more than 5 people in one group, unless a large family or group wants to ride together. You’ll bookmark OutWest Guides as your new favorite place to ride!
